Authorities in China's capital Beijing on Monday (June 13, 2022) raced to contain the "explosive" Covid-19 outbreak which has been traced to a 24-hour bar known for cheap liquor and big crowds. With over 200 coronavirus infections linked to the bar since June 9, authorities have described the outbreak as "ferocious" and "explosive".
People infected in the outbreak live or work in 14 of the capital's 16 districts, authorities have said.
"Epidemic prevention and control is at a critical juncture," a Beijing health official was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Covid-19 outbreak in Beijing 'still developing'
The Covid-19 outbreak linked to the bar in Beijing's biggest district - Chaoyang - was "still developing", a health official said on Monday.
Chaoyang on Monday also kicked off a three-day mass testing campaign among its roughly 3.5 million residents. About 10,000 close contacts of the bar`s patrons have been identified, and their residential buildings put under lockdown.
