King Charles III Coronation: UK All Set To Welcome Its 40th Monarch

The coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as King and Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms will take place on Saturday, 6 May 2023, at Westminster Abbey. 

Charles acceded to the throne on 8 September 2022, upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.  The Archbishop of Canterbury will conduct the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London, following a tradition that has largely remained the same for ten centuries.

On May 6, King Charles III will become the 40th monarch of the United Kingdom to be crowned at Westminster Abbey in London, while his wife Camilla will be anointed as the Queen Consort. 

Queen Elizabeth II was the last monarch to be crowned in England in 1953.

The service at Westminster Abbey will start at 11 AM and conclude at 1 PM, lasting around two hours. 

Millions of people in the UK and around the globe will watch the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey. 

King Charles’ scaled-back coronation is likely to cost the UK around USD 125 million, say reports.

The King's coronation comes as the UK economy remains in the doldrums and many Britons struggle with daily expenses amid the country’s cost-of-living crisis.
