BJP mocks Navjot Singh Sidhu, says he boarded a 'sinking ship' by joining Congress

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday ridiculed the induction of their former member Navjot Singh Sidhu in Congress, saying that latter has boarded a sinking ship and added that he would repent over his decision.

"Congress is a sinking ship in which Sidhu has boarded. At a time when nation is heading towards Congress free India, he has joined the party. Soon he will repent over his decision," BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI.

Earlier terming Sidhu a "traitor", Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal alleged that he has betrayed his "mother party", the BJP, which brought him into the politics.

Cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu joined the Congress yesterday ahead of assembly elections in Punjab after yet another meeting with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who welcomed him into the party.

The 58-year-old had quit the BJP in September 2016, complaining that he had been sidelined.
