Not only it garners sympathy from the viewers which leads to a better understanding about these diseases but also makes up for inspiring and heart-warming tales.

The 2009 movie put the spotlight on a very rare disease called Progeria. The disease is so rare that only 40-50 patients are known to have the condition all over the world. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Auro, a 13-year-old-boy suffering with a genetic disorder that leads to quick acceleration of the ageing process. The movie beautifully captured the mental and emotional journey of Auro and the struggle that his parents had to go through.

Autism spectrum disorder which affects about 1-2 people per 1,000 is characterised by impaired social interaction, communication and restricted repetitive behaviour. Priyanka Chopra in the role of Jhilmil, portrayed the daily struggles of an autistic girl, who tries hard to integrate into mainstream society. The complicated love story between a deaf and mute hero (Ranbir) and an autistic heroine won many hearts.

Taare Zameen Par portrayed the troubled life of Ishaan, played by Darsheel Safary, who suffers with dyslexia. The character of Ishaan touched our hearts as it was an eye opener about the reality that a dyslexic child faces. Dyslexia is basically a reading disorder in which a person faces difficulty in being able to read accurately despite a normal intelligence.

Our very own King Khan played the role of a patient suffering from Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning Autism that complicates socialization, prevents him from fully understanding the world around him and causes him to display behaviour that many would consider to be odd. But the movie enforces that despite differences and struggles, a person can still find happiness and achieve what he sets out for.

Ajay Devgn's directorial debut 'U Me Aur Hum' showcased our very own loving couple Ajay and Kajol. In the movie, Kajol ends up with Alzheimer's which Ajay discovers while she gets pregnant and the disease worsens with time. How the couple copes up with the disease makes the premise of the movie.

The thriller directed by Vijay Lalwani showed the troubled life of Karthik, played by Farhan Akhtar who suffered from rare medical problem called schizophrenia in which a person is unable to recognize what is real. Karthik thinks he is responsible for his brother's death and later starts getting haunted by strange phone calls in his own voice. Strangely in the end, we find that it is no one else calling him but Karthik's schizophrenia, which makes him believe the phone calls.
