Mumbai: Devotees of Lord Shiva in Northern India (Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar) are celebrating the last Monday or Somwar by visiting temples and offering their prayers. The holy month of Shravan is of great significance for the Hindus.
In the month of Shravan, devotees observe fast, take part in charitable activities and remain devoted to the divine.

Interestingly, for devotees in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have a different set of significant days in the month of Shravan because they follow the Amavasyant calendar.
So according to the Amavasyant calendar, for people residing in the aforementioned states, it’s the third Somwar.
