Mahendra Singh Dhoni turns to Sourav Ganguly's 'boys' for Asia Cup success

New Delhi: One question that continues to be debated in Indian cricket circles is who among MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly is the better captain.

While Kapil Dev also finds favour among fans, the younger lot is split between Dada and Mahi.

The Prince of Kolkata is credited for turning around the fortunes of Indian cricket at a time when the match-fixing scandal had rocked the game.

Ganguly's leadership relied on aggression and throwing young players right into the heat of the battle.

Dhoni on the other hand is a shrewd tactician, who built his own team over the last 7-8 years. The wicket-keeper batsman had to guide the team when most of the senior members were bringing down the curtains on their career.

Despite being in charge of a team that was in transition, Dhoni continued to enjoy a lot of success in limited-overs cricket.

Now as the team gets into battle mode for two important assignments – Asia Cup and ICC WorldT20 – Dhoni is relying upon members handpicked by Ganguly to lead the team to success.

While there is a clear Dhoni stamp on the current team, four members of Dada's famous 2003 squad feature prominently in it.

Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Ashish Nehra were called up to the side ahead of the tour to Australia, while Parthiv Patel was asked to board the flight to Bangladesh as cover for Dhoni himself on Monday.

Interestingly, Sanjay Bangar too was part of Ganguly's 2003 World Cup team that made it to the final of the tournament.

Bangar is now of course part of Ravi Shastri's support staff.

While the debate over the better captain (Dada or Dhoni) will go on, one thing is for sure, Ganguly will be extremely proud and happy to see his boys, now veterans, still considered as key members of the T20 side.
