New Delhi: Australia's senior batsman Adam Voges continued to rise high in Test cricket and after his ton against New Zealand at the Basin Reserves in Wellington on Saturday, he is being dubbed as the new 'Don'.
Voges' century meant that his current average in Test cricket is more than 100. Former legendary Australian cricketer Don Bradman, is still considered as the greatest cricketer of all time. Bradman retired in 1948 with a Test average of 99.94 from an 80-innings career.
The remarkable feat has now been overtaken by Voges in his 19th Test innings.
The 36-year-old will resume his innings on the third day building on a 100.33 average and the Australians were quick to dub him the new "Don".
'I already have,' said Usman Khawaja who starred with a ton on Saturday. He went on to add that with the average Voges has, he may just have to call him 'Sir Voges'.
"He`s got an average higher than Don at the moment so I might just have to call him `Sir Voges`.”
Usman also went on to describe Voges' performance as a sensible and patient.
"He`s batted very sensibly, patiently at the start, was hitting a lot of good shots straight to fielders, didn`t get frustrated with it," he said.
Voges has been in stupendous form and scored centuries in his last three innings, posting 269 not out and an unbeaten 106 against the West Indies in December.
Voges scored an unbeaten 176 as Australia reached 463-6 to stretch their first innings lead to 280 against the Kiwis who are staring at a huge defeat.
