India vs Australia 2016: Uncapped pacer Jasprit Bumrah to replace injured Mohammed Shami in T20I squad

New Delhi: Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah was on Monday named as replacement for the injured Mohammed Shami in India's squad for the upcoming three T20Is against Australia.

The news of Bumrah's inclusion was announced by BCCI through their official Twitter account.

Shami missed the series Down Under due to a hamstring injury.

Bumrah will join Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Suresh Raina and Hardik Pandya who are expected to leave for Australia on January 22.

The 22-year-old has taken 14 wickets in nine games at an economy rate of 6.23 in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Along with all-rounder Axar Patel, Bumrah was instrumental in helping Gujarat win the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well.

In nine games, he took 21 wickets at an economy rate of 4.02. The right-arm pacer has delivered the goods in the Ranji Trophy too with 21 wickets at an average of 25.67.

Bumrah first captured the imagination of cricket fans with his unorthodox bowling action in Indian Premier League.

Ever since his debut season, the youngster has been an important member of the Mumbai Indians side.
