New Delhi: India will play world champions Australia in a five-match ODI series starting from January 12. The visitors will eye for a surprise series win against Australia, whose bowling unit looks a bit depleted on paper.

According to a report in The Times of India, former India fast bowler Javagal Srinath has stated that the visitors will need to play good cricket overall despite Australia missing out premium bowler Mitchell Starc.

Srinath added that the injury paves a way for someone else to come and chip in for Australia. Their sporting culture suggests another player steps up in the absence of an important player and that brings out the best in them.

Srinath further went on to add that he sees this series as an opportunity for India and has opined on the fact that one can't depend on good rival players retiring or getting injured to win a series.

Although Australia will not have Mitchell Johnson (retirement) alongside Starc, their pace battery has the likes of inexperienced Scott Boland, left-arm pacer Joel Paris and Kane Richardson. The hosts have ignored the likes of Shane Watson, James Pattinson and Pat Cummins.

Srinath feels that it isn't right to think, just because the Aussie attack is a bit depleted, hence India will have a good chance.

Josh Hazlewood will lead the Aussie attack as the hosts will try to come all out despite who is playing.
