BCCI divided over Shashank Manohar's proposals: Report

New Delhi: As a follow-up to the views expressed by Shashank Manohar soon after being re-elected as BCCI President earlier this month, the Cricket Board is all set to appoint an Ombudsman at its AGM which is scheduled to be held at its headquarters here on November 9.

The Ombudsman will be appointed by the BCCI's general body "to deal with the complaints of Conflict of Interest and any act of indiscipline or misconduct or violation of any of the Rules and Regulations of the Board by an administrator," as per the wordings of the clause that has been proposed.

However, not all BCCI members are happy with Manohar's proposals to revamp the board, reports the New Indian Express.

“Some of the matters require further discussion. We’re not clear on all the points,” said a member.

Some board members are apprehensive about adopting the proposals.

“Appointing an independent observer to settle issues of conflict of interest is a good idea. But there are positives and negatives. Not all may welcome this because we don’t know who the ombudsman would be and who will vouch for his neutrality. That way, there is room for difference in opinion,” said a member.

However, there is a section that is backing the new board president to bring in new regulations to make BCCI more transparent.

“This is done to ensure the board runs in fair and transparent manner, so that the Supreme Court can’t find flaws in our system. It came down heavily on the issue of conflict of interest and we must avoid repeating mistakes. The BCCI has to take steps to show it’s proactive.

What the president has suggested can be worked on. For example, there’s no need to have 20-odd members in sub-committees. Sometimes, it creates a problem of too many opinions. Or else, not many are heard. Either way, so many are not needed,” said another.
