BCCI names Ratnakar Shetty WT20 chief coordinator, IPL COO: Report

New Delhi: Professor Ratnakar Shetty was on Thursday named as chief coordinator for the next year's ICC World T20 to be held in India.

According to a report in the Times of India, BCCI also named him as successor of Sundar Raman at the Indian Premier League.

Though Shetty's designation in the cash-rich league is not known, the Indian board is confident that he is the perfect man for the high-profile job considering his vast cricket administration experience.

"It was a toss-up between professor and Amrit Mathur, who handles internal communications. Shetty has been asked to take the responsibility purely because of his experience," a source told TOI.

Shetty was also the director for the ICC 2011 World Cup, which was hosted by India.

After his exit from the BCCI and IPL, Raman is joined Reliance Industries as its chief executive to consolidate and drive the group's initiative in the sports business.

In addition to the existing sports properties of the group and its non-profit foundation, the former IPL COO will be driving newer avenues of growth in this area, as also the integration with the digital services of Jio.
