New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will postpone its all-important Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was scheduled for September 27, to a later date.
The board on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking clarification with regards to the presence of former president N Srinivasan in the AGM.
“As per our legal opinion he [Srinivasan] could not attend the meeting. But he then forced himself to be in the meeting. And we did not want any contempt of court. That is why we have filed the petition on Friday and may be in a few days’ time we should get the order,” Anurag Thakur told ESPNCricinfo.
Until there is clarity on this front, BCCI will not set the dates for its AGM.
According to the Societies Registration Act, an organization needs to issue a 24-day prior notice before conducting the AGM.
Hence after the SC gives its opinion, the BCCI will need at least 24 days to hold the AGM.
“Certain things are not in our hands. This has not happened for the first time. It has happened many times,” Thakur further added.
