Borde, Venkat among former captains to be invited by BCCI

Mumbai, March 28: Chandu Borde and Srinivas Venkataraghavan are among six former captains who have been invited to interact with the Cricket Board`s office-bearers here on April 6 to guide the board on revitalising the national team after India`s dismal World Cup outing.

The four other ex-skippers invited to the all-important meeting at the BCCI`s newly-built headquarters are 1983-World Cup-winning Kapil Dev and the men he led in England during the country`s sole victorious campaign in the mega event - Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Krishnamachari Srikkanth.

"We will first meet World Cup skipper Rahul Dravid, coach Greg Chappell and manager Sanjay Jagdale (also a national selection panel member) before having the discussion with the six former captains," said BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah today.

The BCCI`s all-powerful Working Committee is to meet the next day to take a final call on the matter, including appointment of a new coach in case the members decide not to renew the contract of Chappell after April.

The players` contracts are also expected to come up for discussion at the Working Committee meeting and in the wake of India`s shock first round exit in the West Indies it would be interesting to see the outcome of this contentious matter between the players and the administrators of the game.

The squad is set to return to India tonight in different groups with the players landing in airports close to their home towns.
