New Delhi: After playing a breathtaking knock in the final of the ICC World Twenty20 against England, West Indian cricketer Carlos Brathwaite is set to play in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
All-rounder Brathwaite, who hit four consecutive sixes in the last over of the match to help West Indies win the coveted trophy at Eden Gardens on Sunday, will play for Delhi Daredevils in the ninth edition of the cash-rich league.
Delhi Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua feels that Brathwaite's heroics just ahead of the IPL, will bolster the confidence of the beleaguered franchise as the dashing cricketer has the ability to bring the fans back in the stadium.
"Any kind of performance by a cricketer, who plays for your franchise helps to bring in the confidence back. What he did was not easy to do under pressure on a platform like a World Cup final. Such a performance will definitely help the fans regain the lost. It's good to bring those people back in the stadium," Dua told PTI.
Brathwaite, 27, was bought by DD for Rs 4.2 crore during the IPL auctions this year.
Dua seems quite impressed with the way the Caribbean team has performed in the WT20 this time as he said: "If we look at the West Indies side, there was not a single match-winner. There was a Chris Gayle, a Lendl Simmons, a Marlon Samuels, everyone performed. That's how we expect it in DD. It was Brathwaite's day and he performed. Similarly there will be Negi, Chris Morris, Mayank Agarwal or a Shreyas Iyer performing for the team.".
Zaheer Khan will lead DD in the forthcoming edition of IPL.
Now it would be interesting to see whether the finale hero of the WT20 can bring DD fans into stadium?
