Colombo: Australian captain Michael Clarke, who will be a part of Cricket Australia (CA)’s new five-man selection panel, has said he is looking forward to taking on the responsibility of choosing the team as well as leading it on the field.
The five-man selection panel is part of the recommendations made in the much-awaited Argus Review.
“The positive from that is it allows the communication between selectors and players to be very clear now. It allows me to give the player the consistent feedback the player is probably searching for and to let him know the reasons for his selection or non-selection,” Fox Sports quoted Clarke, as saying.
“It certainly makes me more accountable now and I look forward to the challenge,” he added.
Clarke also rejected suggestions of a rift between players and CA national talent search manager Greg Chappell.
“My communications with Greg have been fantastic. He’s been open and honest with me and I’ve been able to do the same back in return. My relationship with all the selectors has been fantastic and I’m certain that will continue,” he said.
According to reports, the selection panel will include the captain, the coach, a fulltime chairman and two independents.
Don Argus, the former chairman of BHP Billiton and Brambles, conducted the review, which has been touted as the most comprehensive in Australian cricket history.
Argus interviewed over 60 people involved in Australian cricket before presenting his findings to the CA board yesterday.
