New Delhi: An unlikely history was created on Thursday when a buoyant Indian team under Virat Kohli took on England in the fourth Test of the five match series at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.
It marked the first time in Mumbai's proud cricket history that there will be no local player in a Test match. Pacer Shardul Thakur received a call-up as a back-up for Mohammad Shami, but he was overlooked as more experience Bhuvneshwar Kumar was available for selection.
And unluckily, middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane picked up an injury during a pre-match practice session on the eve of the match.
But another fact which will haunt local fans, for that matter of fact, any general cricket fan is that it's the first time since 1993 that India are a playing a Test match with Sachin Tendulkar at Mumbai.
For the record, last time a Test match played on this ground was in November 2003, when Tendulkar turned up for his 200th and last Test.
Tendulkar scored 74 as India beat West Indies by 126 runs.
