New Delhi: He may have failed yet again with the bat in the ODI series against India, but Hashim Amla did managed to achieve a personal milestone during his brief stay at the crease in the 5th ODI.

The South African opener became the fastest batsman to go past 6000 runs in ODIs.

In doing so, the right hander broke the record set by Virat Kohli.

Kohli reached the 6000-run mark in 136 innings, while Amla got to it in just 123 outings.

Needing 15 runs to achieve the landmark before the start of match, the 32-year-old pulled a short delivery from Mohit Sharma for a boundary through midwicket.

Amla got off to a brisk start at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, only to be dismissed by Sharma for 23 off 13 balls.
