'I always thought AB de Villiers would be a golfer'

New Delhi: South African cricketer AB de Villiers is certainly the most dangerous batsmen in contemporary cricket. But on Saturday, de Villiers father Abraham Benjamin de Villiers stunned everyone by stating that he always felt his son would become a golfer.

“I thought he would make it in golf. I was always thinking lying on the bed that Ernie Els would see this boy. His striking of the ball was so good. Then tennis came in the way. Cricket came in the way and then rugby. Strangely, he was not calm in golf, though he is calm while batting.” De Villiers (Sr) was quoted as saying by DNA.

AB is arguably one of the best athletes that the game of cricket have ever produced, who grew up playing a variety of sports.

AB's parents were present at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Day 1 of the 2nd Test between India and South Africa to attend their son's 100th Test match.

With the 85-run knock, the 31-year-old remained the highest scorer for his side in the first innings.
