New Delhi: Ahead of Indian Premier League 2016, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to be embroiled in more legal battles.
According to a report on the IBNLive website, Chennai Super King (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are likely to drag the Indian board to court over issues related to payment of of their franchise fee instalment.
Despite being suspended for a period of two years, BCCI has sent the two franchises invoices for payment of 30% of their annual franchise fee by January 2.
CSK and RR believe they must be exempt from this fee until their return to the league in 2018.
“That was our understanding but we are really shocked that we have been asked to pay the fee. If we pay then we must receive the annual grant from the central revenue as well,” a franchise official told the Mumbai Mirror.
“If they don’t pay, there is no punishment. It would be like a two-year sabbatical for them. BCCI would also be considering taking legal help on this matter," a board official said.
CSK and RR were replaced by BCCI with teams based in Pune and Rajkot. The board incorporated two new teams after conducting an auction that followed a reverse bidding model.
Sanjeev Goenka's New Rising consortium bought Pune, while Rajkot went into Intex Group's kitty.
