New Delhi: When Sandeep Patil-led selection committee on Monday announced the 17-member Test squad for the West Indies tour, one name that raised many eyebrows was of Shardul Thakur.

Few days back, Shardul was in news when he slammed Indian Premier League (IPL) after being benched at Kings XI Punjab for a significant period of time.

Here are the five facts about the 24-year-old cricketer.

The Mumbai pacer is the only uncapped player in India's 17-member West Indies-bound Test team.

The young pacer performed outstandingly well in the domestic cricket this season, where he picked up 41 wickets for Mumbai at an average of 24.51.

The fast bowler is part of the Kings XI Punjab side in the IPL. He was signed in 2014 by Punjab franchise.

The pacer has played only one game in three IPL seasons so far, according to India Today.

Overall, Thakur has 133 wickets in 37 first-class matches at an average of 27.53. The cricketer was also part of the India A squad that played four-day matches at home against South Africa A and Australia A.
