Proteas fans suggest Kallis must quit ODI cricket to focus on Test matches

Johannesburg: South African cricket fans believe Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis must either play regularly in one day internationals, or he must retire.

According to Sport24, the 38-year old Kallis, who missed the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy for personal reasons, didn`t feature in either the ODI series in Sri Lanka or the one against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates and has only featured in four of the Proteas` past six ODIs, registering knocks of 50 and 7 against Pakistan and 10 and 10 against India.

Until he played recently against Pakistan, Kallis had been absent from the Proteas` ODI team for 21 months, the report said.

A majority of fans believed that Kallis should just focus on Test cricket, while almost a third of those polled said the Proteas stalwart would have to be in-form and playing regularly to stand any chance of making the squad, the report added.

Only 15 percent believed Kallis was indispensable to the Proteas batting line-up, the report further said.
