Katich ready to play in Boxing Day Test against India

Sydney: Dumped Australian batsman Simon Katich has admitted that he has not given up hope of playing Test cricket again.

“It’s funny, because four or five years ago, I was told that I was never going to get picked again and I got back into the team. From that point of view, I don’t give up on anything and that’s why I’m still playing. I love playing, I still love doing all the hard work,” the Daily Telegraph quoted Katich, as saying.

The 36-year-old, however, denied reports that he had tried to make direct contact with national selector John Inverarity.

“I know my manager (Robert Joske) was quoted as saying we’d been playing phone-tag, but that’s been reported incorrectly,” Katich said.

Katich has been in good form for New South Wales this season, with 395 Shield runs at an average of 39.50 including two centuries.

It is believed that Cricket Australia selectors discussed recalling him to the Test XI for the Boxing Day clash with India.
