NZ needs to be ‘little bit daring’ for Oz Tests: McMillan

Auckland: The New Zealand team needs to get more daring in their team selections and play if they are to beat Australia in the upcoming Test series, according to former all-rounder Craig McMillan.

McMillan’s comment comes after the Black Caps beat Zimbabwe by 34 runs to secure their first overseas Test win since October 2008.

He said that the Black Caps would have zero chance of beating Australia if they can’t take 20 wickets.

“I think playing just four bowlers got shown up on that last day. Obviously Jeetan Patel didn’t have a great Test so effectively Ross Taylor was down to three bowlers he could rely on and I just don’t think four bowlers are going to be enough to bowl Australia out twice to win a Test match,” stuff.co.nz quoted McMillan, as saying.

“They need to be a little bit daring, push Daniel Vettori up to No.6 in the all-rounder’s role which he’s effectively filling anyway. For the first Test at the Gabba, they’ll need to play four quicks, so hopefully the likes of [Tim] Southee and [Andy] McKay will be fit then.”

“Throw them in with Martin and Bracewell, who I thought had an outstanding first Test,” he added.

New Zealand and Australia will play two Tests in December.
