New Delhi: Virat Kohli is no longer just a phenomenon in India. In 2016, the popularity of India's Test skipper transcended borders.
Not just cricketers, but football superstars are now acknowledging the brilliance of the 27-year-old.
First it was England forward Harry Kane and now it is the turn of German midfielder Toni Kroos.
While Kane's effusive praise for Virat appeared genuine, the budding bromance between Kohli and Kroos is likely to be sponsor-driven.
Ahead of Euro 2016, Virat took to social micro-blogging site Twitter to reveal that he would be cheering for Germany.
Kohli sported the German jersey and had 18 on his back, just like his Team India ODI jersey.
Excited for #Euro16
I'm all in with Die Mannschaft for the Euros! Which team are you supporting? #FirstNeverFollows pic.twitter.com/iAGbAE1r4N— Virat Kohli (@imVkohli) June 9, 2016
Reacting to the jersey number on Kohli's back, Kroos complimented him for the choice and promised to send him a special gift.
Beautiful shirt and great number choice @imVkohli ! Awesome! Going to send you a gift #FirstNeverFollows https://t.co/A0u3n15WP3

On Monday, Virat informed his fans and followers that the Real Madrid star had in fact sent him an autographed Germany jersey.

Virat went on to add that he too would be sending Kroos a special present.
The Delhi batsman also wished Kroos for his team's impending quarterfinal duel against Italy.
