Ravichandran Ashwin: Spinner will hope to shine in ODIs against mighty Aussies

New Delhi: India's premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will be eager to perform at his best in overseas conditions outside the sub-continent.

India's tour of Australia comprising three T20s and five ODIs starts from January 12, 2016. Ashwin It will be a big test for him down under especially in limited overs format where he has struggled earlier.

Ashwin has been the leader in India's Test bowling and has been crucial in the country's series victories against Sri Lanka and South Africa this year. But they were achieved on sub-continent conditions.

The 29-year-old has done better in ODIs outside India, earning success in England. But his record against the Australian batters in their own home is pretty poor.

In the five ODIs against the hosts in Australia, the off-spinner has managed to take just one wicket. The Aussie batsmen have scored over 40 runs in each of these matches.

The world champions have dominated ODIs against India at their own backyard and the visitors will be wary of their strengths. Australia have some big names in their line-up and Ashiwn will relish the opportunity to bowl against them this time given his maturity that has grown to pay dividends.

In the beginning of this year, Ashwin had showed sparks of brilliance by getting 12 wickets in three Test matches. The off-spinner has acknowledged he needs to perform well away from home and he has improved his bowling but conditions in Australia will be tough given the impact pavers have.

India has been dependent on Ashwin and it looks good that the bowler is ready to take the responsibility and get India back to winning ways in a series. India lost two of their last three ODI series against Bangladesh and South Africa.
