Roger Binny likely to step down as national selector: Report

New Delhi: Roger Binny could relinquish his position as a national selector after BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 9.

According to a report in the DNA newspaper, Binny's current role is in violation of the BCCI's 29-point reform agenda to put an end to conflict of interest of administrators, players, affiliated units, selectors and others employed by the Indian board.

“No member of the selection committee including the convener and the invitees i.e. the coach or captain, or their near relatives shall have any financial interest or business association with any player considered for selection to any team selected for and on behalf of BCCI” is what the 'no conflict of interest' rule states.

With son Stuart playing for the Indian team, the role of his father as part of panel that selects the national team has often been questioned.

Another issue facing the Binny family is that of Stuart’s wife, Mayanti Langer, who is contracted by the official broadcast partner of the BCCI.

“Roger has been given time to decide about his future post AGM. All selectors and officials of the BCCI now understand that after the Supreme Court verdict on N Srinivasan’s conflict of interest case, every individual attached with the Board will have to decide whether they want a position in any state association or an office of profit,” said a source told DNA.

Immediately after Shashank Manohar took over as board chief, his son Adwait stepped down from from BCCI's legal committee.

Similarly, Binny has been asked by the BCCI to take a decision soon as news reforms are set to come into effect after the AGM.
