New Delhi: India's premier pace bowler Mohammed Shami who has been sidelined from competitive cricket since the ICC 2015 World Cup, has made a reurn to the field by playing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Shami has recovered from a knee injury which he had sustained in Australia and since his comeback, he has featured in two of Bengal's matches in the Vijay Hazare trophy. Bengal has already played five games and are already playing Saurashtra on Friday.
Interestingly, Shami wasn't included in the playing XI against Saurashtra as Bengal made 243/5 in their 50 overs.
Shami's return has seen him taking three wickets from 18 overs in two games.
The selectors are going to select the ODI and T20 squads on Saturday for India's short tour next month and the question lies whether Shami will get a nod after playing just two games since his return from a long injury.
The pacer was only selected in Bengal's squad for the ongoing tournament after being passed 100% fit. He played his two games against Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, picking three victims in the process.
Shami has been impressive for India in limited overs and was excellent in the World Cup as well. Given that the selectors are likely to go with pacers in the squad, Shami's inclusion lies in a tricky situation given his absence and lack of match rhythm.
With the pool of India's bowlers in its kitty, the management may be prompted still opt for him given he is fit and will be raring to go against the world champions.
