FIFA World Cup 2018: Germany vs South Korea - As it happened

 The jinx stands, once again a defending champion fails to get past the group stages for the fourth time in five World Cups.

Kazan, Russia: What a day for South Korea, they steal a historic 2-0 victory against the defending champions. Germany are knocked out of the World Cup, for the first time since 1938, after two late goals by Kim Young-Gwon and Son Heung-Min. South Korea become the first Asian team to beat Germany at a World Cup. The jinx stands, once again a defending champion fails to get past the group stages for the fourth time in five World Cups.

South Korea 2-0  Germany!

90+6 minute: GOAL!!! Son Heung-Min finds a pass up-front and scores into an open goal. Goalkeeper Neuer was out attacking in the midfield when  Ju Se-Jong crossed a long ball to Son Heung-Min. That was sloppy from Neuer, that sums it up for Germany.  

South Korea 1-0 Germany!

90 +2 minute: Corner for South Korea. South Korea's Lee Yong does not look comfortable. Kim Young-Gwon fires the ball into the goal. Referee consults VAR. GOAL!!

6 minutes of Stoppage time. 

87 minute: MISS!!! Mats Hummels goes unmarked in the Korean penalty box but heads the ball away from the goal.

Timo Werner has had 13 touches in the box but not a single shot on target. 

84 minute: Brilliant defending by South Korea. The defenders have cramped the Germans for space in the final third. 

82 minute:  Germany's Joshua Kimmich chips the ball into the box and finds Thomas Muller but he heads it wide. Germany need to create something quickly as they are running out of time. 

10 minutes to go!

77 minute:  Corner for Germany. The goalkeeper rises to collect the ball. South Korea on the counter. The Korean strikes finds space in the final third and hits the ball wide. That was close!

73 minute: Corner for Germany. Sweden go 3-0 up, Germany need a goal here at the Kazan Arena. 

70 minute: Toni Kroos clouds the ball away from the goal. Germany are pushing hard for a goal here. What a match this is turning out to be. 

69 minute: Substitution for Korea. Ju Se-Jong is in for Moon Seon-Min. 

66 minute: MISS!!  Moon Seon-Min picks up a pass inside the box but fails to hit a shot as the Germany defender clears the ball to safety. 

65 minute: Yellow card! South Korea's Son Heung-Min gets booked for a bad challenge. 

Sweden have gone 2-0 up against Mexico, Germany need to accelerate here. 

58 minute: Substitution for Germany. Mario Gomez replaces Sami Khedira. 

This is the first time since 1986 that Germany have gone goalless at halftime in all their group stage matches at a World Cup. 

In the other group D clash, Sweden have taken the lead. Sweden 1-0 Mexico. This deepens things for Germany who need to score at least two goals to qualify for the round of 16. 

50 minute: Yellow card!  South Korea's Moon Seon-Min gets booked. That is the third yellow card for  South Korea. 

48 minute: SAVED! That was close! Germany's Ozil picks up a ball in the Korean box but his header is saved by the Korean goalkeeper. 

In the other Group F clash, both Sweden and Mexico went goalless at half-time.

43 minute: Hector finds the ball in the Korean box but gives it away by conceding a foul. Germany lack inspiration up-front. South Korea, on the other hand, will be happy with the proceedings so far. 

39 minute:  Corner for Germany. Werner makes a touch but South Korean goalkeeper plunges onto the ball. That was close.  

35 minute: Germany are looking to set themselves as they struggle to create chances in the final third. They desperately need a win.

29 minute: Germany's Timo Werner cuts in from the left-flank but his cross is headed away by the Korean defence. Corner for Germany. 

25 minute: MISS!! South Korea's Son Heung-Min skies a golden opportunity from close range. 

23 minute: Yellow card! South Korea's  Lee Jae-Sung gets the second yellow card of the day. South Korea need to be careful as they are giving away too many free-kicks. 

18 minute: Free-kick to South Korea after a high-boot challenge from Jonas Hector. Jung Woo-Young hits the ball directly into the hands of the German goalkeeper Manuel Neuer who fails to hold on to the ball and then taps it away for a corner. That was close!

The Germans have played five finals in their last nine World Cups. The only time Germany were knocked out in the early stages was way back in 1938 World Cup, where they went down 4-2 against Switzerland in a replay. 

11 minute: Free-kick to Germany. The Korean defence clears the ball to safety. 

9 minute: South Korea's Jung Woo-Young gets a Yellow card for a challenge on Jonas Hector.  

7 minute: Germany's Marco Reus picks the ball in the left and attempts a half-volley but hits the ball wide. That was close. 

4 minute: The Koreans are operating the ball really well in the midfield. Germany need to win this match to qualify for the round of 16.

Germany are four-time Football World Cup champions and have always cleared the group stage hurdle.
