New Delhi: German football star Bastian Schweinsteiger, who is known for his quick wits, was at his usual best while facing the Indian media. The Bayern midfielder bowled over hordes of ‘angry’ scribes, who were made to wait for almost an hour before the players finally turned up, by saying that he likes Indian women more than Indian food in response to a query.

“Well, I am more interested in women than the food. We have got our own cook but maybe we will get a chance to taste some Indian food. About Indian women, let`s see how many turn up at tomorrow`s match,” he told reporters on the eve of the exhibition match between the Indian national football team and Bayern Munich to mark former Indian captain Baichung Bhutia’s farewell.

Schweinsteiger, who has been not been playing for a while due to an injury said this trip was an important one as it would mark his comeback. When asked about the status of his injury, he said, “There is no problem with my shoulder now and I have fully recovered from the injury.”

It is easy to predict the result of a match between the four-time European champions and 162nd ranked Indian team, but a smiling Schweinsteiger played it safe and said it was very difficult to predict. “We have to see how our opponents play and then accordingly decide a plan and strategy,” he added.

The German, who has very little knowledge about Indian football, sounded very excited about his trip to the country. He said, “There is no doubt that as footballers we love travelling to different places. India is one of the most talked about country in the world today. It will be a great opportunity for me to win some new friends and inspire my young fans.”

The ticket proceedings of the exhibition tie between 22-time German champions, FC Bayern Munich and the Indian team, which will be played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Tuesday, will go to the quake-affected people in Sikkim.
