David Moyes sacked by Real Sociedad after one year in charge

New Delhi: Spanish football club Real Sociedad sacked coach David Moyes on Monday, following a run of poor results which has left them hovering just above the relegation zone in the BBVA Primera Liga.

The club released a brief statement, confirming the news of relieving the Scot from his position: "Real Sociedad have decided to terminate the contract of first team coach David Moyes. His assistant Billy McKinlay has also departed. The board wishes to thank both David Moyes as Billy McKinlay for their entire contribution, the professionalism and dedication they have shown during the course of their duties in the mamangement of the first team, while wishing them the best for their professional and personal future."

The former Everton and Manchester United manager, Moyes had arrived in San Sebastian with the club in the relegation zone and was able to comfortably steer them to safety last season.

However, the current season has nevertheless, been disappointing and Real Sociedad have not won at home all season, which has not helped to calm the nerves of a set of fans who were hoping that Moyes could repeat the success of former British boss, John Toshack.

After 11 years at Goodison Park, Moyes had managed only nine months at Old Trafford and left Sociedad hours before his first year was up.
