Has it happened? Louis van Gaal fails to turn up for Manchester United training

New Delhi: It may well read too presumptuous but, Louis van Gaal's short-reign at Old Trafford is likely to end pretty soon.

According to reports in British media, the Dutchman failed to turn up for training on Sunday. In his absence, club legend and assistant manager Ryan Giggs reportedly took charge of the session ahead of Monday's Chelsea clash at home.

United's defeat at Stoke City fuelled speculations that van Gaal's future at Old Trafford has indeed numbered, with Jose Mourinho emerging as the favourite to replace the former Bayern Munich manager at the helm.

In such a situation, LVG failing to turn up for training only added to the speculation that he might have already been fired.

It's interesting to note that after the Stoke defeat, LVG said that he could jump before he is pushed.

LVG arrived at Old Trafford in July 2014 as the replacement to David Moyes. But, despite all the high hopes, the Dutchman has failed as the manager of England's most successful club.

United have slipped to sixth in the Premier League after three consecutive defeats.
