New Delhi: English giants Manchester United on Friday confirmed the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in a free transfer.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic," the statement read.

Earlier today, the 34-year-old arrived at United's Carrington training complex for his medical examination.

The Swede himself announced on Thursday that he would be joining United this summer, posting a message on social media accompanied by a picture of the club's badge.

Ibrahimovic made 180 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 156 goals. He has won championships in four different leagues since beginning his professional career with Malmo in 1999.

The former Barcelona and Juventus player represented his country 116 times, scoring 62 goals, before announcing his retirement from international football last month. He is United's second signing of the summer after Villarreal defender Eric Bailly joined for £30m.

The arrival of Jose Mourinho as the new United manager allowed the reunion of two maverick individuals. They have teamed up at Inter Milan on 2008-09.

United, which finished fifth in the Premier League table last season, will start their 2016-17 campaign on August 13, away at Bournemouth.
