Complainant’s statement of sexual abuse recorded against India hockey skipper Sardar Singh

New Delhi: NRI woman Ashpal Bhogal, who has accused Indian hockey team captain Sardar Singh of sexual abuse, appeared before the special investigation team (SIT) on Wednesday to record her statement.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the complainant, who hails from UK, had come with her counsel. She submitted photographs and call details between her and Sardar to the SIT.

Reports state that the woman said she stuck to her statement.

Sardar appeared before the SIT on March 1 and pleaded innocence.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Satvir Singh Atwal confirmed that the complainant recorded her statement with the SIT. She had come to the Koomkalan police station and appeared before the special investigating team set up by the Ludhiana Police Commissioner Parmraj Singh.

Earlier it was learnt on Tuesday March 8, that Ashpal would appear before the police in Ludhiana to formally record her statement.

Sources had claimed that the lady was likely to meet the SIT officials around 11am, and added that she would submit additional evidence.

Reports also state that the woman had alleged Sardar of sexually assaulting her in his maternal house at Bhaini Sahib village, the police therefore have decided to call his parents and maternal relatives to join the investigation.

Bhogal is a former under-19 England hockey player, has claimed that Sardar got engaged to her in 2014, following which they entered into a physical relationship.

She repeated that she was engaged to Sardar, he raped her and forced her to abort their child. Later, he refused to marry her.
