Punjab govt to set up international stadium in Amritsar soon

Amritsar: The Punjab government on Monday said it is building seven international sports stadium in the state including one at Amritsar.

Information & public relation minister of Punjab Bikram Singh Majithia said the stadium-cum-sports complex here will be constructed in expansion scheme of Ranjit Avenue.

For this purpose Amritsar Improvement Trust will give 15 acres of land, he told reporters here.

The state government is developing Amritsar as sports hub of the state and create facilities to host important sports events beside providing a world class infrastructure to the budding players.

Majithia said the facility will include an aquatic centre comprising of an Olympic size pool, spectator gallery, VIP parking and diving pool.

The indoor games stadium will have a multipurpose indoor games arena which can host basketball, badminton, gymnastic, table tennis, judo, boxing. It can also host socio-cultural events with the 7500 seating capacity.

The complex will have a food court, sports mall, a hostel cum residential complex for 200 players and coaches would also be set up in the stadium, the minister said.

He added that the stadium would play a significant role in promoting sports culture not only in Amritsar city but also in adjoining rural areas by providing top class sports infrastructure and coaching facilities.
