Unlike Sachin Tendulkar, Mary Kom raises first issue in Rajya Sabha in just three months

New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has often been criticized for not taking his duties as a Rajya Sabha member seriously.

Tendulkar hardly attends parliament and has a woeful record when it comes to raising issues in India's upper house.

It took the master blaster nearly three years to ask his first question in the RS.

At the time, he asked a question regarding the Mumbai Metro from the Ministry of Railways.

Unlike India's former cricket captain, star boxer Mary Kom raised her first issue merely three months after being nominated to the RS.

The former world champion raised concerns over the facilities provided to Indian athletes who participate international sporting events.

Mary Kom's intervention during the Question Hour was regarding the ideal diet and training for athletes representing the country in marquee events.

Though she missed on a Rio quota, the Manipuri boxer conveyed her best wishes to the Indian Olympic contingent from the floor of the house.

BJP MP and sports minister Vijay Goel assured her that his ministry would look into the issues and any other specific complaints.

He also informed the house that the government had spent anything from Rs 30 lakh to Rs one crore on training each of the 119 players representing India in the Rio Olympics
