Sandeep Yadav – Narsingh Yadav's roommate, also fails doping test

New Delhi: While Narsingh Yadav has pleaded innocence ever since news of him failing a doping test broke, in a fresh development, his roommate Sandeep Yadav is also said to have tested positive for a banned substance.

Both the wrestlers, who are roommates at the Sports Authority of India’s Sonepat centre, have failed dope tests conducted by the National Anti Doping Agency (NADA).

National Anti-Doping Director General Navin Agarwal confirmed that Narsingh's 'B' sample also tested positive for a banned steroid and he appeared before a NADA disciplinary panel on Saturday.

While Narsingh's dream of representing the country could be over, Sandeep is not a part of the Indian contingent for Rio Olympics 2016.

Both the wrestlers have tested positive for methandienone, an anabolic steroid, sources said, adding that the tests were conducted on June 25.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has withheld Narsingh’s accreditation card and the WFI has indefinitely postponed the contingent’s exposure trip to Georgia.

The team was supposed to leave for the eastern European nation for a preparatory camp on Monday.

In case if Narsingh is found guilty, it would be a huge blow for India as they cannot replace him with another qrestler in the 74-kg category as the last date to send the final list of athletes was July 18.
