After showing his heroics while playing for RCB in the IPL, the diminutive batsman's master-class was on display in the recently concluded U-19 WC, where he came out as the most consistent batsman, with five half-centuries in six matches. If not for a permanent spot in the playing XI, the 18-year-old could have got at least some quality time to spend with the senior pros in the dressing room.

Even while rubbing shoulders against the world-class cricketer in the Indian Premier League, the 21-year-old proved that he belongs to the highest level. While playing for Rajasthan Royals, he has made a name for himself and received many accolades from the cricket fraternity as well. Being a wicket-keeper batsman, he should have been picked as a reserved wicketkeeper, knowing the fact that Indian have an ageing MS Dhoni behind the stumps.

Irfan Pathan: Indian skipper MS Dhoni always has special liking for all-rounders in the shortest format. And while leading his Baroda state, all-rounder Pathan showed impeccable consistency in the top domestic T20 competition, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by taking his team to the final. Pathan, 32, couldn't have knocked national selector’s doors at any better time. His international exposure could have come handy for India in pressure games. Presence of the bowling all-rounder would have also made the side look more balanced. India have mere three pacers in the squad. And knowing Pathan’s ability to swing the new ball both ways, he could have been used as a surprise package at some point of time in the marquee event.

In the presence of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja it’s difficult for any spinner to find a place in India’s playing XI. Still, considering the fact that Indian tracks are more conducive for spin bowing, selectors picked Pawan Negi and Harbhajan Singh. But is there any point having four off spinners in the team? Especially at a time when you have attacking young leg spinner in the country, in the form of Chahal, who has made a name for himself in the shortest format of the game via IPL. Even after proving his worth time and again, the Haryana leggie will be watching the upcoming World T20 from the TV sets. Such a waste of talent.
