In the shotput-throw F53 event, the 46-year-old athlete won second place in the women'scategory at the Rio Paralympics on Monday, with a personal best throw of 4.61m. She was also the only female athlete in the contingent.

Thangavelu created history by winning a gold medal in the men's high jump T-42 event, with a leap of 1.89 metres. It was later reported that he donated his Rs. 30 lakh prize money to his school.

Varun jumped a personal best of 1.86 metres to clinch bronze in the men's high jump T-42 event. He also recorded a jump of 1.82m at the 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championship where he won a gold as well as set a new Asian record.
