New rules for enhancing consumer protection notified with more powers to three-tier quasi-judicial mechanism

According to the notification, district commissions will have jurisdiction to entertain complaints where the value of the goods or services paid does not exceed Rs 50 lakh. Further, the State commissions can look onto complaints in the range of Rs 50 lakh- Rs two crores.

New rules for e-commerce entities notified; 'country of origin' tag made mandatory

Under new draft Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, e-commerce companies will have to display the total price along with break-up of charges and 'country of origin' on their goods. A nodal officer will be appointed for compliance.
