General Electric plans thousands of layoffs amid corporate overhaul
With its market capitalization down by more than $100 billion since January, the 125-year-old maker of jet engines and power turbines will shed about $20 billion in assets, selling off parts of its transportation and electricity businesses, as part of the turnaround to narrow the conglomerate`s focus to aviation, healthcare and energy.
