राष्ट्रीय जनता दल, बिहार के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री लालू प्रसाद यादव की पार्टी है. वैसे तो ये पार्टी बिहार की है, लेकिन इसकी लालटेन की टिमटिमाहट पूरे देश भर में फैली हुई है. साल 1997 में ही इसी पार्टी का गठन हुआ था. जी हां, 5 जुलाई 1997 को जनता दल से अलग होकर लालू यादव ने राष्ट्रीय जनता दल पार्टी का गठन किया था. इतना ही नहीं, चारा घोटाले की वजह से जब लालू यादव को जेल की सलाखों के पीछे डाला गया तो इसी साल उन्होंने अपनी पत्नी राबड़ी देवी को को मुख्यमंत्री बनाकर सबको चौंका दिया था.
