#ShauryaStories: Bhuj The Pride of India

The Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 began with Operation Chengiz Khan, code name assigned to Pakistan Air Force’s preemptive aerial strikes on 11 Indian air stations. The war, which lasted for 13 days, concluded following the Eastern Command of the Pakistan military signing the Instrument of Surrender, thus leading to the independence of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan). The only runway in Bhuj got destroyed during the war.

#ShauryaStories: Sam Manekshaw - first Indian Army officer promoted as Field Marshal

Sam Manekshaw was born as Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji on April 3, 1914 in Amritsar, Punjab. Manekshaw, fondly called Sam Bahadur by his fellow soldiers, served as the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.  He became the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of field marshal. The title of the Field Marshal was conferred to him in January 1973.

#ShauryaStories: The 2016 Uri attack - All you need to know

In the early hours of September 18, 2016, four heavily armed terrorists crossed the Line of Control (LoC), broke through the heavily guarded military camp carrying AK-47 rifles in North Kashmir’s Uri town of Jammu and Kashmir and launched a massive grenade attack. In the attack, 18 soldiers were killed and more than 30 were injured. 10 days later, on September 28,  India carried out surgical strikes in Pakistan.

#ShauryaStories: 'Kargil Girl' Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena - First woman to fly in a combat zone

Gunjan Saxena became the first IAF woman officer to go to the war. She joined the IAF back in 1994 and in 1999 went to the Kargil war. She along with Flight Lieutenant Srividya Rajan from the IAF entered the war zone. Kargil war veteran Gunjan Saxena was assigned to help in evacuation of the wounded during the crisis. She assisted in transporting supplies and surveillance in the Kargil war.
