Shakuntala Express: Meet India’s Only Privately Owned Railway Line

Shakuntala Railways, the only private owned railway line in India is a narrow gauge railway line in Maharashtra. The train takes around 20 hours to cover the 190km distance between Yavatmal and Achalpur in Amravati district and stopped operations in 2019, but is still under the ownership of the Central Province Railway Company (CPRC), the private firm floated by the British firm called Killick-Nixon. It is pulled by a diesel engine that replaced a steam engine in 1995, after serving the train for 70 years.

Good news! Railways to restore service of all cancelled trains next week
