Monsoon delayed in Uttar Pradesh

Heavy rains are predicted for July 4.

Lucknow: Despite rains in Delhi, Uttarakhand and parts of Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon seems to be progressing at a tardy pace towards Uttar Pradesh.

In the absence of rains, the sweltering heat is taking a heavy toll on the people. Humidity is adding to the woes.

While schools have re-opened after the summer break, many parents have kept their children home due to the weather.

The MeT department here has predicted rains for the weekend.

The Director of the Regional Met office, J.P. Gupta, said the monsoon was a bit slow and delayed. He, however, said there would be rains in some parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Friday.

The monsoon would have entered the eastern parts of the state by the weekend, he said. The present weather conditions, he said, were owing to "changed wind pattern".

Heavy rains are predicted for July 4.
