Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute: Shia Waqf Board to approach Supreme Court before December 5 with solution

Ayodhya: The Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board along with some Mahantas from Ayodhya will approach the Supreme Court before December 5 with a solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.

Shia Central Waqf Board chairman Syed Waseem Rizvi on Sunday met several Mahantas in Ayodhya for mutual agreement in the dispute.

"We are working on a solution and before December 5 we will approach the court with it," Rizvi said, ANI reported.

In August 2017, the Shia Central Waqf Board of Uttar Pradesh had told the apex court that a mosque could be built in a Muslim-dominated area at a reasonable distance from the disputed site in Ayodhya.

The board had also told the apex court in an affidavit that the Babri Masjid site was its property and only it was entitled to hold negotiations for an amicable settlement of the dispute.

The 30-page affidavit was filed within few days of the SC agreeing to fast trafast-trackring on a batch of appeals challenging the Allahabad High Court verdict on the land dispute in the case, as per PTI.

Earlier, the top court had said that the Ayodhya dispute was a sensitive and sentimental issue and had added that it was best that the matter was settled amicably.

The apex court had also suggested if required, a principal mediator could be chosen by the court for settling the matter.
