UP civic polls 2017: BJP gained in places where EVMs used, claims SP

LUCKNOW: The Samajwadi Party on Friday attributed its humiliating defeat in the civic body polls to the "faulty EVMs used at some places" and said the party would closely analyze the results.

Party MLC Rajpal Kashyap said, ''It was disheartening to note that the BJP gained on places where EVMs were used.''

The opposition SP, BSP and Congress campaigns were a low-key affair as compared to BJP. Both SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati did not campaign for their candidates.

The polling was held in three phases on November 22, 26 and 29.

The final results are expected by later on Friday evening.

The ruling BJP has rejected the SP charge and said “there was no shortcoming in the voting machines. It's in their minds.”

“The opposition had worked for a particular caste but people have discarded them,” UP Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said.

The BJP is working for all, irrespective of their caste, creed and religion and that has been accepted by the people," he added.
