NEW DELHI: In yet another case of 'triple talaq' reported from Uttar Pradesh's Rampur, a man gave triple talaq to a woman after she reportedly woke up late in the morning.

The victim has alleged that she was first beaten up by her husband and then was given the triple talaq by him.

The incident has taken place even though the Supreme Court has outlawed the draconian practice of triple talaq.

Earlier today, a Muslim woman from Hyderabad, claimed that she was allegedly divorced by her Omani husband over a phone call and requested the government to take cognisance into the matter.

Ghousia Begum, a resident of the Old City of Hyderabad, told ANI, "In 2008, my marriage was solemnized with 60-year-old Omani national Zahran Al Rajhi, after he fulfilled all the rules and regulations of his country to marry me. He had promised to take me to Oman and also buy me a house in Hyderabad, but he betrayed me."

"My husband used to visit Hyderabad and stay with me. He used to send Rs 16, 000 - Rs 17, 000 per month from Oman. On August 15, 2017, I received a call from him when he pronounced Talaq over phone. I tried to contact him again, but he is not taking my calls or calling back," she added.

Ghousia has sought the help of  Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Sushma Swaraj and the Telangana government.

Meanwhile, as per a report, the BJP has issued a fresh whip to all its MPs to attend the Parliament session on Thursday as the government is all set to table the 'controversial' bill in the House tomorrow.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will introduce the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights and Marriage) Bill that seeks to protect the rights of married Muslim women and prohibits "any pronouncement (of divorce) by a person upon his wife by words, either spoken or written or in electronic form, or in any other manner".

The bill proposes to make the triple talaq practice a punishable offence and describes it against "constitutional morality" and "gender equity". Anyone who pronounces instant divorce "shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and a fine", the bill proposes.

On the other hand, clerics and several Muslim organisations, cutting across sects and schools of jurisprudence, have opposed the bill, terming the government`s stand as "uncalled for interference" in the personal laws of the community.

Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar asked all opposition parties to help pass the bill in Parliament.
