New Delhi: Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said that the decision to select two Deputy Chief Ministers for Uttar Pradesh was taken on the behest of the then CM-designate Yogi Adityanath.

"Yogi Adityanath is an honest man. Nobody can raise a finger on his commitment. Also, winning from the same seat five times isn't a small thing. He openly requested me for two Deputy Chief Ministers who would help him as Uttar Pradesh is a big state. The trio will be a good combination," Venkaiah Naidu told ANI reporters today.

Yesterday, a legislature party meeting was held in Lucknow that was also attended by BJP president Nitin Gadkari. During the meet, the party leaders unanimously selected Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma as two deputy chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath became the 21st Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Sunday as he took oath at Kanshiram Smriti Upvan in Lucknow today afternoon.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and several senior party leaders.
