Lucknow: In a big relief to thousands of distraught farmers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced to waive off pending bank loans upto Rs 1 lakh among other measures in the first Cabinet meeting of his government.
The meeting, which was headed by CM Yogi Adityanath, was held at Lucknow's Shastri Bhavan.
Yogi Adityanath government's decision to waive off farmer loans will reportedly cost the government around Rs 36,000 crore in a year. However, it is expected to benefit the state's 2 crore 30 lakh farmers.
The UP CM also stressed on bringing reforms in the education system of Uttar Pradesh and said FIRs would be registered against public school teacher who gave private tuitions.
Besides farm loan waiver, the Cabinet also discussed took important decisions regarding legalising slaughterhouses, licenses of meat-sellers, extending more help to the water-scarce Bundelkhand region, electricity in rural areas and sorting out the problems related to Purvanchal - the issues mentioned in BJP's election manifesto.
Here are the top decisions taken by the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet:-
-Rs 1 lakh loan waiver for small farmers.

-Along with farm loans worth 30,729 crores, NPAs worth 5,630 crores also waived off
-GoM formed on illegal mining
-5000 wheat buying centres to be set up, to be monitored by CM
-Farmers to get Rs 10 more than minimum support price per quintal
-Cabinet will buy 100% wheat crop of farmers.
-80 lakh metric tonne wheat target.
-Monitoring of Anri-Romeo squads across the state.
-FIRs against government teachers running tuition classes.
-Complete shutdown of illegal abattoirs.
-Cabinet nod for a sports stadium to come up in Ghazipur.
The BJP, in its Lok Kalyan Sankalp Patra (manifesto), had promised to waive the loans of small and marginal farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had said in his campaign speeches that writing off farm loans would be among the foremost tasks of the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.
Although there is no Constitutional compulsion of convening the first cabinet meeting within a certain period, traditionally the ruling party has held it within a week or so of forming the government.
The Adityanath government was sworn-in on March 19. Since then, there have been informal meetings of the state cabinet ministers but no official meeting.
Government sources said around 2.30 crore farmers in the state suffered losses due to natural calamities in the recent past and were unable to repay loans amounting to about Rs 62,000 crore.
