WHO named the first coronavirus strain found in India as "Delta Variant"

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday announced that the COVID-19 strain found for the first time in India will be referred to as the "Delta Variant". India objected to this on 12 May, which so far has been identified as B.1.617, also being referred as the "Indian variant".
